Mismatch Repair (MMR) occurs in the process of DNA replication, recombination and damage repair, and can recognize and repair erroneous insertions, deletions and integrations. Four common mismatch repair proteins in the human body, namely hMLH1, hMSH2, hMSH6, and hPMS2, cooperate each other to perform DNA mismatch repair functions. The deletion of any protein in the MMR system will lead to DNA mismatch repair deficiency (dMMR), resulting in replication errors or microsatellite instability (MSI), which in turn induces tumorigenesis.
